Old Museum- Adam Elsheimer
Newer Museum- Petrus Van Schnedel
The first obvious similarity between these two paintings is that they are both night scenes. The aspect of these paintings that I find most interesting is the contrast in types of light. In both paintings there is natural light provided by the moon, as well as two additional sources of manmade light in each. I love the gesture of including multiple sources of light in a painting and think it really adds to the quality, and character of a painting.
